La Tierra Prometida se adentra en el proyecto de colonización agraria emprendido por la dictadura franquista en la provincia de Granada. Los capítulos que articulan la obra exploran el funcionamiento del Instituto Nacional de Colonización y de la política agraria franquista, pero también revelan las dificultades que atravesaron los habitantes rurales incluso en los años del supuesto "milagro económico español". La convivencia de los mitos de la colonización y de su falsedad queda refrendada en el análisis de los poblados, en su organización interna y, sobre todo, en la memoria de sus pobladores.
