Back to America invite à voyager dans le temps et à redécouvrir cette Amérique qui fait tant rêver, celle du cinéma en Technicolor et des images lissées de l'American Dream. De Manhattan à Daytona Beach, du Michigan au Nouveau-Mexique, chaque image vous transporte au comptoir d'un diner, à la pompe d'une station-service, au coeur d'un rodéo ou au volant d'une automobile rutilante. Entre 1935 et 1944, en plein New Deal, le gouvernement américain confie aux plus grands photographes la mission de documenter les actions de l'Etat.
Jack Delano, Marion Post Wolcott, Marjory Collins, Gordon Parks, Esther Bubley ou Berenice Abott, pour ne citer qu'eux, réalisent cet inventaire unique. Ce fonds photographique, commandé par la Farm security administration, est aujourd'hui conservé à Washington au sein de la Bibliothèque du Congrès. Sébastien de Oliveira a sélectionné et mis en couleurs 180 images issues de ces archives. Back to America regroupe six ans de travail.
