Overview

Las Cortes Constituyentes de 1869 tuvieron que lidiar con no pocos asuntos polémicos que todavía hoy pueden ser considerados de actualidad, desde la libertad religiosa hasta las corrientes centrífugas de algunos territorios, pasando por la judicialización de la política y la politización de la rusticia. Por primera vez, además, un grupo de políticos carlistas participó como tal en las labores constituyentes y en la elección del nuevo rey. Divididos entre su alma insurreccional y la cotidianidad legislativa, sus miembros, apoyados en un discurso prototípicamente reaccionario, ejercieron una oposición obstruccionista y desleal con el nuevo Régimen. No por ello, sin embargo, fueron del todo ajenos al espíritu parlamentario, como muestra el Diario de Sesiones de aquellos años, tan bien analizado por Carlo Verri en este novedoso volumen.
